Highlights of 2015 in photos

For the first time, it doesn't really feel like the year flew by as fast as it normally does, probably because I've spent half of the year in London and so much has happened/changed, mostly good things though! I also took a lot more photos this year compared to last year and I want to share some of these photos with you today! Last year I said that I wanted to be more creative in 2015 and I accomplished that! I've also been more creative with my school projects and documents which helped me to get some really good grades this year. Hopefully I will be able to create more, and do more creative things in 2016 as well (and hopefully make some money out of it too!) but my main resolution for this year is to not wait for opportunities to happen, but to create more myself. Hopefully I will graduate from University this year and to be honest, I'm not really sure what I'm going to do after I graduate. As long as I can do something creative, and I'm not stuck in my room at home or in an office the whole time, then I'm happy! But without further ado, here are some of my favourite highlights from 2015!

Photos of my day in Antwerp

For Christmas I went to my sister in Breda for a few days, and since Breda isn't that far from the city Antwerp in Belgium, we decided to go there the day before Christmas. My sister and I are both a fan of shopping and wandering around in cities we haven't been before so this was a great way to spend a day together. I also like to photograph everything that gets my attention (what you probably already know by now) so in this post I want to share some of the photos that I took when we were in Antwerp!

Magical Christmas Markets in Cologne, Germany

It's almost Christmaaaas!! Yay! Unfortunately that also means that the holiday season is almost over. :( I hope you're all enjoying it so far! One of my favourite things I love to do around this time of year, and what really gets me into the Christmas spirit, is strolling around Christmas Markets. This year I went to the Christmas markets in Cologne (Köln) in Germany for the first time and I think those markets might be the most beautiful and magical Christmas markets that I've ever been to!

How to stay productive during the holiday season

For some reason, my school always finds it necessary to place all the major deadlines right after the Christmas break. I've always struggled with staying focused on school work when there were so many other fun things that you can do during the holiday season. But after 3 years in University, I finally have the feeling that I know how to stay productive but still have enough time to enjoy the holiday season! Here are the things that help me to stay more productive and hopefully they can help you too, whether you're still in school or not!

A sunny day in Amsterdam

A few days ago I went to Amsterdam to film a bit for my school project. I couldn't have picked a better day because it was such a lovely sunny day! I've walked though so many streets, and along canals to just find those right spots for my project. Finding the right places was a lot harder than I thought! But nevertheless I enjoyed my day in Amsterdam and of course I took some photos too and I wanted to share them with you today!

a Lush tag

Let's talk about Lush today! Before I start answering the questions, I would like you to meet one of my best friends: Janka! Janka is my Lush obsessed friend who just started her own blog!!! She recently did a Lush tag and tagged me to do it too! We just went to Lush (twice) last week when we went shopping in Amsterdam and I'm actually writing this while having the 'Don't look at me' face mask on my face and it feels sooooo goood. So I'm feeling really relaxed and in the mood to talk about Lush. Okay well let's start with the questions shall we!

Why everyone should travel abroad for awhile

I'm not sure if it's just me, but over the past five years, I have seen many of my friends and people I know move to another country for a while like it's a new hype. Most of them for school, for work, or just to travel for a longer period of time. I never really considered myself brave enough to do the same, but after falling in love with London and reading the quote, "If we wait until we're ready, we'll be waiting for the rest of our lives." I decided to do my internship in London. It was scary at first but I'm so happy that I took the opportunity, because it was such a great experience. It's something I would highly recommend to many others. Based on my experience, here is why I think everyone should live abroad at some point in their lives.

London in black & white

Last week I went back to London to visit my Japanese friends Noaya and Naoki for a week, to see some of Naoya's art and to celebrate Halloween together with them and some other people! I've really been missing wandering around in London ever since I moved back to the Netherlands so it felt great to be back in this city full of life.

Showing my Japanese friends the Netherlands | Part 4

Hi everyone, welcome back! (or welcome to my blog if you're new!) Today I want to share with you photos of our day at the Netherlands Open Air Museum in Arnhem where we went back in time and it was so much fun! The Netherlands Open Air Museum is a small town that represents different city's and towns of the Netherlands that take you back in time, from two centuries ago to present day. The people from the museum really seem to be from many years ago and they are just doing their everyday things in this little town, like knitting, working on their lands, feeding their animals and stuff like that. You can walk around, go inside houses, and experience the history of the Netherlands like you really went back in time.

Showing my Japanese friends the Netherlands | Part 3

After a great day in Amsterdam we had a more lazy day. We played Mario Kart on our Wii (which I haven't played in ages!) and I still can't believe that Naoya and Naoki have never played Mario Kart before. Noaya got really good after some practice, but he still can't beat me at Rainbow Road hehe. In the evening we went to a Dutch festival called Appelpop and later that night we went back to the citycentre to meet up with some of our friends to go out, have some drinks and to dance the night away!

Showing my Japanese friends the Netherlands | Part 2

Hello everyone! Welcome to part two of my posts about my week spent with my Japanese friends here in my home country, the Netherlands! In the first few days me and my friend showed them where we live and our lives here in general. On the third day we did something we had been talking about for a long time, going to Amsterdam together! I was not only very excited to show them our capital city, but I was also very excited to spent a day in a bigger city again because I miss the city life a little bit. Since Naoya is a painter, we thought that it would be fun to also show them one of Hollands most famous painting museums based in Amsterdam: Het Rijksmuseum.

Showing my Japanese friends The Netherlands | Part 1

When I lived in London, I met so many amazing and inspiring people from all over the world and today I want to introduce you to two of them: Naoya and Naoki! Naoya and Noaki are both from Tokyo (Japan) but they are currently based in London. Naoki is a chef in London and Naoya travels around the word with his art works. I met them in a bar when my friend Elke came to visit me in London and we got along really well. We've had so much fun together in London but unfortunately there always comes a time when you have to say goodbye. They promised us that they would visit us in the Netherlands around Summer, and so they did!

Usually I don't believe that one product is capable of doing so many things, but since I love Redken's extreme shampoo, conditioner and hair mask, I couldn't resist buying their new product to test it.

How to make your new place feel more like home

We probably all move to another place at one point in our lives, whether it is for family, college or university, work or for an internship like me, far away or close to home, moving to a new place can be very exciting but scary too. I moved from a little town in the Netherlands to London in England about half a year ago. I was super excited and I thought I would be the happiest person on earth when I finally arrived in my favourite city London. But that was not what happened: my house in London smelled weird, and my room and bed were super small. I then realised that for the next 5 months, I can't sleep in my own familiar house anymore, or go to my friends whenever I wanted. This thought made me sad and scared. Ofcourse I knew it beforehand, but I didn't expect to feel like this. My thoughts were like: "Why do I want to move away from all that good stuff for 5 whole months? I don't know anybody here, how am I ever going to feel at home here?" I completely forgot why I wanted to move to London. Luckily this feeling didn't last long, and London started to feel like a home to me before I knew it. Those 5 months flew by super fast and I didn't even want to leave London anymore!

My favourite spots in London

I've said this so many times but I LOVE London! And I've been so lucky to be able to live here for 5 months. In that time I tried to see as much of London as possible, but I still think that there is much more to discover than what I have already seen. I bought a little London notebook in Amsterdam just before I moved to London and in London I wrote down all the places that I loved in this book. These places include my favourite spots to relax, places with good memories and spots where you have a beautiful view of the city. And today I want to share these spots with you!

A day in Cambridge

As I wrote in my blogpost 'a day in Bath', I travelled around England a little bit after my internship in London. Another city I visited was Cambridge, a city in the east of England famous for it's university and also the city where Pink Floyd came from!

A day in Bath

When I finished my internship, and just before I went back to the Netherlands, I travelled around England for a few days. I haven't seen much of England during my time in London so I was excited to see what else England had to offer! The first city I went to was Bath. Bath is a city in south/west England and is surrounded by hills, which I think is pretty cool. To be honest, I didn't know much about Bath when I went there, only that it is very popular by tourists especially because of the Roman Baths. (more about that later in this post!) My first impression of Bath was that it is a very calm, lovely city with beautiful roman architecture and white buildings.

Mumford and Sons live in Goffertpark

I have been waiting for this day for so long! I first discovered Mumford and Sons in 2009 when I saw them play Little Lion Man on MTV and have been a fan of their music ever since. But in all those years I've never seen them live, until last saturday when they played in Goffertpark in Nijmegen (the Netherlands) and oh my goodness they were absolutely amazing! A night I won't ever forget. For those of you who don't know who Mumford and Sons is: Mumford and Sons is a (folk)rock band from England and has 4 members. Their third album came out this May and is called "Wilder Mind".

Street art in East London

London knows many different neighbourhoods like for example Camden and Notting Hill which I have talked about before. Shoreditch and Brick Lane in East London are also definitely places you must see in London. I know I say this about almost every area in London, but I absolutely love this part of London. It's a great place to find offline inspiration because you're surrounded by a lot of art, unique shops like the Cereal Killer Cafe, a lot of vintage shops and people who know how to dress edgy and look absolutely amazing.

A day at the beach in Brighton

I forgot how much I loved the smell of the sea until I went to the beach in Brighton and smelled it again. I haven't been to a beach in so long! I wanted to go to Brighton ever since I'm in London, but I wanted to wait until the weather was a little nicer. Even though there wasn't much sun this day, there wasn't much wind either and the temperature was very pleasant, so still a very good day to go to the beach!

A secret garden in London

When you think about London you'll probably think of the Big Ben, the London eye, the red busses, Piccadilly and Oxford Street. At least, that was what I thought about when I thought of London before I moved here, but London is actually so much more than that. I love finding new (hidden) places and recently I found this 'hidden garden' in north London near hampstead heath called The Pergola & Hill Gardens and it's so beautiful. It's actually a big garden which belongs to a house called "The Hill", but it's open for all people but closes at night.
Not many people seem to know about this place (at least not the people I spoke to about it).
I went there on a sunny Saturday and there were only a few people there while all the other parks in London are filled with people on days like this.

Finding new inspiration offline

If you're in the creative sector like me, you'll probably know this feeling all to well: You're stuck finding a new idea and you feel uninspired. Whether it is for a new blog post, a graphic design, your room, an assignment for a client or school, finding new inspiration can be really hard, especially when you want to come up with something new and unique. They say inspiration can be found in the most unlikely places and I definitely agree with that. Even though the internet can definitely be a source of inspiration, I found out that I feel the most inspired and get my best ideas when I'm not looking at my phone or laptop. So here is a list of things that gave me new inspiration during my study Communication and Multimedia Design, but also for my hobbies photography, blogging, filming and drawing. Offline!

Biggest pillow fight ever!

Yesterday I had planned to go to Covent Garden and the Jubilee market. I have been in Covent Garden at night time but it looked like a really fun place so I wanted to check it out on day time as well. But I thought, you know what, I'm going to take the tube to Leicester Square and I just walk to Covent Garden from there so I can also see the city a little bit. And I'm so glad I did!

My first time in Camden town

My time here in London flies by so fast! Before I know it I have to go to the Netherlands again... But there is still so much I want to see! I'm working full time from Monday till Friday, so I try to do as much in the weekends as I can and get the most out of my time here as possible. I have a whole list of things I want to do and one of those things was going to Camden town, a place famous for it's colourful nightlife and market with a big diversity of shops and stalls.

Notting Hill bookshop & Portobello market

When my sister came to visit me here in London we had a list of things we wanted to do, one of them was going to Notting Hill because we have both never been there before and heard a lot of good things about the market there. The night before we watched the movie Notting Hill, and the next day we went to the bookshop, that William's Travel bookshop was based on!

Chinese New Year in London

Xin Nian Kuai Le! or San Nin Faai Lok! (Happy New Year!) Last weekend my sister came to visit me here in London, and just on the right time because on Sunday the 22 of February there was a big celebration at Trafalgar Square because of the Chinese New Year! My sister and I have both never done anything with Chinese New Year before so we were really excited to see how they celebrate it here in London.

My first week living in London

If you follow me on twitter or instagram then you might already know that I moved to LONDON! I have dreamed of living in London for so many years now and my dream finally became reality! For my study I have to do an internship and it was also possible to do that in another country so I saw this as a good opportunity to live in London for a while. I won't be living in London permanently though, it's just for one semester (5 months). But who knows, maybe I go back to London after I'm done with my study. But first, lets talk about my first week living here!

Photos of my day in Disneyland Paris

Welcome to another post about my week in Paris! On Christmas Day we went to the magical place called Disneyland. They say Disneyland is the happiest places on earth. But let me tell you, if you don't like standing in line for a long time, or crowed places, this may not be the happiest place for you. But if you like Disney, this is still a place you should definitely visit at least once because you will be amazed by all the things around you, no matter how old you are.

Modern Art Museum Centre Pompidou in Paris

On the third day in Paris my sister and I wanted to view some art. My sister recently learned about Jeff Koons at school, and she read that there was an exhibition from Jeff Koons in Paris so she really wanted to see that. It was in the modern art museum Centre Pompidou, the largest modern art museum in Europe with over 50,000 works of art! I also read that Obama has visited this museum in 2009. I haven't been to an art museum in a long time, but after visiting this museum I really want to go to museums more often.

Wandering in Paris

I wanted to upload this post earlier, but my laptop stopped working. :( Luckily I've recently made a backup and I have apple care so the damage wasn't that bad. It took them a week to fix it and now I'm back again with my second post about my week in Paris! If you want to read my first post about my week in Paris you can click here. On the first full day in Paris we were just being typical tourists, we went on a tour boat, visited the Eiffel Tower and went to some Christmas markets.
